Chemical Science Course (Master/Doctor Program)
The present Chemical Science program offers postgraduate students for your Master and Ph. D. degrees in the wide range of “Chemistry”, the center of science. “Chemistry” is providing a broad and indispensable basis of our materials society, and keys for the futures.
The Chemical Science Program is designed principally the seamless postgraduate program for both your master and Ph.D. degree, and in the beginning first years, you will establish and acquire fundamental basis of applied chemistry by the intensive 18 courses given by more than 40 professors in the field of Physical Chemistry, Synthetic Chemistry, and Biological Chemistry. (Your choice of 10 courses for your master degree.) From the second year, the program is also designed towards developing within each student the ability to do creative scientific research. Accordingly, the single most important facet of the curriculum for an individual is his or her own research project. During the first semester, students choose a research director, with the consent of the faculty member and the advisory board of the course, and will select their thesis advisor after completion of a few week rotations. Thereafter, all students become involved in library research on their projects and many begin actual experimental or theoretical work.
In keeping with the goal of fostering an atmosphere of scholarly, independent study, formal course requirements are minimal and vary among disciplines; advisor's tailor course requirements to best prepare the student for the chosen research field. For example, a student who chooses to specialize in physical chemistry is normally expected to take two ~ four courses during the first research student period. For instance, the courses may include topics such Statistical Mechanics, Polymer Physics, Interactions of Radiation with Matter, Electrochemistry, and many more. Organic Chemistry involves the field of Synthetic Chemistry, Physical Organic Chemistry, Homogeneous Catalyst (transition-metal catalyst as well as organic catalyst), Heterogeneous Catalyst, and so on. Students are expected to learn the basic principles of synthetic transformation, organic reaction mechanism, physical organic chemistry including molecular orbital theory through the courses.
The present Chemical Science program is also offering “Internship-on-Campus” concepts where the major Japanese private companies have been established their “on-campus” branches, and promoting corroborative research works with students and professors in the present program, the “Work Together” concepts. This is very the unique occasion to join the internship programs in the private companies during your Ph.D. works without wasting your precious time, leading to your skills, jobs, and the future carriers after your degree programs
